LAS.NET Windows 95/98 Setup Instructions
- Verify that Dial-up Networking is installed:
- Double-click on the "My Computer" icon. If you see a folder called
"Dial-Up Networking skip to section I otherwise follow the next step.
- Click on Start | Settings | Control Panel. Choose the "Add/Remove Programs"
icon.
- Select Windows Setup. Click on Communications | Details.
- Make sure that Dial-Up Networking is checked if it is not check is selected so
that Windows 95/98 can install the drivers. You may need your installation disks or CD.
- Verify that the Dial-up Adapter and TCP/IP protocol are installed:
- Click on Start | Settings | Control Panel. Choose the Network icon.
- Go into the Configurations section. Make sure that the Dial-up Adapter, the TCP/IP
Protocol, and the Client for Microsoft Networks are installed.

- If you do not find them, they will need to be added:
- To add the Client for Microsoft Networks, Click on the Add button and double-click on
Client. Select Microsoft as the manufacture and Client for Microsoft Networks. Click on
OK.
- To add the Dial-up Adapter, click on the Add button, double-click on Adapter. Scroll
down the list to Microsoft. Choose Dial-up Adapter and click on OK.
- To add the TCP/IP stack, click on the Add button, double-click on P protocol. Scroll down
the list to Microsoft. Choose TCP/IP and click on OK.
You may be prompted for the Windows 95 disks or CD-ROM. Click OK and restart the system
so the changes can take effect.
II. Configure the TCP/IP protocol for dynamic IP
addressing:
- Click on Start | Settings | Control Panel, and choose the Network icon.
- Click on the TCP/IP protocol and then on Properties.
- Ensure that the following settings are selected:

Click on OK twice and reboot your system.
III. Set up the Connection Icon:
- Double-click on the My Computer icon and select the Dial-up Networking icon.
- Double-click on the Make New Connection icon.
- Give the icon a name, such as LAS
- If your modem is not displayed, click on the Configure button. Your modem should be
shown in the Select a Modem area.
- Choose a maximum modem speed that is as high as you think your modem will go. A good
rule of thumb is to use 38400 for 14.4 modems, 57600 for 28.8 modems and 115200 for 33.6
and 56k modems.
- Make sure that the "Only Connect at This Speed" box is NOT checked. The
Connection and Options sections do not require configuration adjustments. Click OK.
- Click on Next> in the Make New Connection wizard.
- Enter the phone number of your local access number: Click

in your area code:
IV. Setup the Dial-up properties:
- Select your newly-created connection icon, press the right mouse button and choose
Properties. In the Phone Number section, make sure the Use Country Code and Area Code
options are not checked.
- Click on Server Type and open up the drop-down list in the Type of Dial-up Server
section.
- Choose PPP as your server type.(If you're hooked up to a LAN, call us at (626) 799-9461
for support)
- In the Advanced Options Section, make sure:
- Enable Software Compression is checked
- Log On to Network is NOT checked
- Require Encrypted Password is NOT checked
- TCP/IP is the only protocol enabled. Disable IPX and NetBUEI.
- Click on TCP/IP Settings. Make sure Server Assigned IP Address and Specify Name Server
Addresses are selected.
Add in the Primary DNS Server IP Addresses: 216.98.128.74
Add in the Secondary DNS Server IP Addresses: 216.98.128.75
- For the Primary and Secondary WINS configuration, leave them at 0.0.0.0. Check Use IP
Header Compression and Use Default Gateway on Remote Network.
- Click OK three times.
V. Creating a Shortcut on the Desktop
- Drag the LAS icon onto your desktop. (If you don't know what your desktop is,
it's the background, either clouds or a green color) where your My Computer, Recycle Bin,
etc., icons sit.) Click on the LAS icon with the left mouse button and keep it
pressed down. Move the icon from the Dial-Up Networking window and place it against the
background. Let go of the left mouse button. You will be told that you cannot move the
icon to the location-- press yes.
VI. Afterwards
1. Click on your new LAS dial-up connector.
2. After you log-on, use the other Internet software.
3. Have fun.
